The Hall and Stables, built in the 17th century, formed part of the Estate of the Marquesses of Huntly, more latterly home of the notorious George Gordon, a name synonymous with Gordon’s Gin brand. Rumour has it that the Hall was lost and won several times over during late night card games.
The Hall was requisitioned as a prisoner of war camp and later purchased by the City Council as a special educational establishment. Locals happily recall many tales and the buildings hide some fascinating artworks and relics, including an arch – reputedly from Fotheringay Castle, place of Mary Queen of Scot’s execution.
